Literature Text

The two were Fated to be
Intertwined for all eternity.

They had old souls-
Born the moment
Fate’s eyes blinked into being.
But Time and numerous vessels
Tore the lovers apart.
Spider’s webs grew on the lady’s silks-
For she sought no eyes full of adoration
Other than her lover’s.
The man’s top hats faded,
Sitting in too many windows,
Each day with a fresh night lily stuck in the band -
A sign to his beloved, to show her
Where he laid his head those decades.

They had no choice but to live separated.
Until they were Found again.

For they were the Earth, the Sky -
They were the stars exhaling
And they were that pure moment of night, just before the sun rises.
They could never die.

How cruel, to live forever but alone.
Their hearts were only big enough
For each other and the pain and loneliness they felt
In each others wake.

The Faerie King and Queen -
Illfated.

He kissed innumerable lilies,
Pretending them to be her lips.
She stood in countless woods
Believing the murmur of the trees his voice.

And this went on and so forth
For many years.
Hope waned and waxed in their hearts
As each begged the Moon
To bring her favored children together again.
What a harsh mistress -
For she only hid her face from them
And came back, with empty eyes.

And yet.

One night the Faerie Queen, in black rags of soot and sorrow,
Wearing a night lily behind her ear
Left her wood for the cliff just beyond the edge of trees,
Facing a sea bearing an angry god.
She begged her mother the Moon for mercy.
"O Moon, beaming down on me with pale light,
Let me and this empty existence
Crash on the rocks and ebb into the ocean as sea foam.
Do not let me go on one more moment
Without he whom I have loved."

The Moon hid behind a tumultuous grey cloud,
And the Queen cried out in rage and helplessness,
To have lost the light while blindly beseeching Her.

And yet.

The light returned, but only a beam -
Angled on a male figure, bent on one knee - in prayer.
Raising his eyes, the figure saw the Queen,
And she him,
And they knew each other.

They crushed themselves to each other,
Hoping beyond Hope to become one.

He cupped her cheek and she his,
And the Faerie King and Queen kissed once more.
The whole wood behind them erupted
Into joyous praise to see the lovers together again.

Sprites became pinpricks of light,
Guiding the lovers as they danced,
Hearts So full of love and joy it came spilling out of their eyes as tears.
The faeries sang
And the stars lit the sky as bright as Apollo’s sun
And every fiber of the earth felt Love.

And the lovers were never parted.

And if you hold a night lily to your lips
When the moon is full
And the earth is holding its breath;
In front of a wood,
You will see pricks of light
And two eternal lovers dancing.

This, above all things, is a story of Love
